Custom orthotics for flat feet

What is flat feet (Pes Planus)

Pes planus, or flat feet, is a condition where the arches of the feet are flattened and the entire sole of the foot makes contact with the ground. In individuals with normal arches, there is a noticeable upward curve in the middle of the foot. However, in people with flat feet, this arch is either reduced or absent.

How do Orthotics Help with Pes planus

Arch Support: Custom orthotics are designed to provide tailored arch support, helping to lift and maintain the natural arch of the foot. This support helps reduce the flattening of the arch during weight-bearing activities, addressing the underlying cause of flat feet.

  1. Alignment Correction: Flat feet can contribute to misalignment of the lower extremities, leading to issues such as over pronation. Custom orthotics can be crafted to correct these bio-mechanical abnormalities, promoting better alignment from the feet up to the knees, hips, and spine.

  2. Shock Absorption: Orthotics can offer additional cushioning and shock absorption, reducing the impact and stress on the joints. This is particularly important for individuals with flat feet, as the lack of arch support can contribute to increased strain on the ankles, knees, and lower back.

  3. Stabilization: Flat feet can result in instability during walking or running. Custom orthotics can provide stability by controlling excessive motion and preventing the foot from rolling too far inward (pronation).

  4. Reduction of Foot Fatigue: With proper arch support and improved alignment, custom orthotics can help reduce fatigue and discomfort associated with flat feet. This is especially relevant for individuals who spend long periods on their feet.

  5. Prevention of Overuse Injuries: Flat feet can increase the risk of overuse injuries due to altered biomechanics. Custom orthotics can help distribute forces more evenly, reducing the likelihood of injuries such as shin splints, stress fractures, and tendonitis.
